The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.

The Counselling Process

Bernadette is an Australian Registered Psychologist offering online psychology sessions to wherever you are in the world. When you book a psychology session with Bernadette at Essential Nature you will be entering a safe space where you can share your life experiences, thoughts and feelings. No topic is unwelcome.

Whether in-person or online, Bernadette offers a very warm and compassionate counselling approach. During your first session a detailed history will be taken along with any other relevant information that will help her understand you and how to best treat the problem or work through the issues you are facing. A counselling plan will then be discussed with you. Sessions are usually 55 minutes in length.

During your subsequent sessions Bernadette will work with you step by step to uncover any blockages or resistances you may have and give you skills and tools to help you understand yourself better and how the tackle the problem or delve deeper. The number of sessions you will need will depend upon the type of presenting problem or what you would like to work on, and this will be worked out between you and Bernadette.

Bernadette uses a variety of evidence-based therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Mindfulness-based therapy.

The Enneagram, an incredibly useful and transformative personality tool, can also be used in sessions to help you uncover the core beliefs that hold you back. To learn more about the Enneagram, or if you’d like to begin to determine your personality type before your session, please go to The Enneagram Institute  or The Narrative Enneagram.

Does online psychology work?

The Covid pandemic led to huge changes for psychology across the world. Many people had to see their psychologists online for the first time in history due to lockdowns and restrictions. Some doubted that the same level of trust and safety could be achieved with an online session and weren’t sure whether or not the same therapeutic change could occur.

To many people’s surprise, therapy sessions online have worked surprisingly well. Some people even prefer to have their sessions online, as it means they can relax in the comfort of their own home and that travel time is completely eliminated. Parents can even have their sessions after their children go to bed without having to find a babysitter.

Sometimes sessions can go quite deep and a lot of emotion can surface for healing, so having sessions from home means you can immediately relax after your session instead of battling traffic or public transport.

Bernadette offers online sessions to people anywhere in the world and can accomodate any timezone.
